Public light buses in Hong Kong are popular transport service around Hong Kong, Public transport in this small dynamic city is one of the most convenient and reliable ones in the world. It includes various transportation including MTR, LRT, ferries, tram bus, taxi, minibuses and many more. Apart from the MTR and bus, minibuses are also one of the most used Hong Kong’s public transportation by the public. Minibuses has a maximum capacity of 19 people. There are two different types of Public light buses available; the red one and the green one. The green one is the one with scheduled service and the red one is the nonscheduled service. They don’t allow any passengers to stand inside the vehicle.

Green Minibus:

The red minibusses are free to operate anywhere except the prohibited areas, there is no control over the road and fares. It provides 24-hour services therefore, it is coinvent for travelers who travel around the city round the clock.

Most of the minibus drivers get the payment in cash. These vehicles are also less regulated and most of the time privately owned, hence the routes and prices depend on the current situation at the time. Due to this reason, we may sometimes notice that they are driving faster in order to maximize more passengers for good cash benefits.

At late night, especially after 12-1am when the MTR and Hong Kong Public bus services are not available anymore, these mini buses are very convenient as red minibuses operates overnight.

However, for the occasional tourist the minibus is not highly recommended as it’s service is more suitable for the local residents who are well familiarized with the city and it’s routes.

Speed Limit and SeatBelt for safety

We usually take the minibus when we have to go somewhere faster as the driver sometimes exceeds the speed limit.

Nowadays, the speed limit is displayed in front of each bust to ensure the driver is well aware of the speed and maintains the correct speed limit for the safety of the passenger.

Seatbelts are available in each seat for the safety purpose of all passengers. It is always advised for the passengers to buckle up their seat belts.

Compared to the last 6-7 years the minibus has improved a lot for the safety guidelines. These days it is much better, reliable, and safer.
